Nuances is soliciting original poetry, and fiction for publication in our annual online magazine. Submissions are accepted only from members of the La Roche College community: students, faculty, staff, and alumni. You do not have to be an English major to submit writing to Nuances. We welcome submissions from individuals from all disciplines.

Guidelines for submitting fiction and creative non-fiction:

  • Submit your work in MS Word, Tahoma font, 10 pt. font size.
  • Single-space stories using block paragraph format.
  • Use the enter key to create a new paragraph only.
  • Use the shift + enter to create a new line only.
  • Limit stories to 12 pages

Guidelines for submitting poetry:

  • Submit your work in MS Word, Tahoma, 10 pt. font size.
  • Single space and left justify poems on the page.
  • Use the enter key to create a new paragraph.
  • Use the shift + enter to create a new line only.

Procedure for Submission
When submitting your work to Nuances:

  • Send all correspondence to
  • Use MS Word, 10pt. font, Tahoma. 
  • We do not accept anonymous submissions. Along with your work, send us your name, the names of your poetry and/or fiction submissions, your phone number(s), and current address.
  • Each poem, short story, or creative nonfiction submission should be its own separate e-mail attachment. To name the file for the attachment: use your last name followed by a hyphen followed by the name of the work. For example, if your last name is Fox and your poem is entitled "Steel Faucet," you would name the file: fox-steel faucet.
  • Remember that submissions are accepted year-round, but reviewed twice a year, in December and March. The accepted entries appear in June of the current year.
  • Nuances will accept up to two prose pieces and/or five poems per each writer's submission. You may submit more than once any given year

The following policies are in effect for submitting material to Nuances:

  • Submissions must be of original work not previously published.
  • By submitting your work to Nuances, you are allowing us to publish your work digitally and in paper form, if we so choose.
  • Nuances editorial staff reserves the right to reject material deemed inappropriate.
  • Not following guidelines will result in your work being rejected for publication.
