PNC Park Trip:

On August, 2004 our chapter went on a tour at PNC Park in Pittsburgh. PNC Park tour gives you an idea of how a company uses its network infrastructure. Mr. Terry Zeigler showed us the conceptual schemas to physical connections of machines within the network of PNC Park.

Our chapter group had a chance to see the horizontal and vertical backbones of their network. We viewed the point of presence (POP) facility where all horizontal UTP CAT 5 cables were directly concentrated there with help of patched panels and switches. We were introduced also to the Main Distribution Facility which had installed PNC Park servers

Our group also had a chance to see how their servers operate when they count tickets sold for a game or people who are already entering the stadium to watch a game.  Fiber optic cables were installed to support the network with the necessary Internet bandwidth.

PNC Park – Pirates it is one of our best tours that can suit any of the technology related majors. After the tour, our group had a chance to watch the game of the Pirates while thinking how people behind the stadium seats work with data and networking to make an entertaining and interactive adventure for the game fans.
