WELCOME TO CAMPUS MINISTRY

On behalf of the staff of Campus Ministry, welcome to La Roche College.  The Office of Campus Ministry seeks to build up the spirit of community among our students, faculty and staff through prayer, service, ministry, worship and programming to assist members of our community to grow in spirituality.  Each member of our Campus Ministry team is dedicated to serving both the needs of the individual and to unifying the campus community. Our wide variety of programs offers the opportunity for you to grow in your faith, to share your gifts and talents with others and to build a community of faith, hope and love.  With this mission at heart, we reach out to the global community as sisters and brothers dedicated to building a better world.

The average age of a homeless person in the U.S. is 9 years old. Join us for this unique event to raise awareness and funds for emergency shelter, housing, street outreach, and other services for the homeless. There will be real-life stories, local musicians, documentaries, and more...

Event: Youth and Teen Retreat for Kids with Spina Bifida

Come for the fall Halloween Retreat wat the Woodlands. Assist children and teens, ages 8 -18, playing outdoor games, swimming, archery, making crafts,and much more. There is even a haunted trail! This is a really fun time!!!

SERVICE LEARNING CLUB

UPDATE

The Service Learning Club (SCL) has met twice this semester.  We have tried to get involved in projects that better the lives of various groups, from children to the elderly, from people with disabilities to the homeless.  We have made some changes as service opportunities have warranted:

Information on the Alternative Spring has gone out.  We will be taking 25 students to New Orleans to do housing rehab March 7-14, 2009. Cost is $250.00 and applications must be turned in by Oct. 31.  Emails have been sent out and applications are available in Bold I, Rm. 214.   Our next SCL meeting will be on Oct. 15, 2008 in the Bold Union at 4:00 PM.

Some Helpful Information On Service Learning

 

SUNDAY NIGHT LIVE!

9:00 p.m. our Campus Ministry mass followed by a pizza party resumes on August 24, 2008. Renew old friendships and make new friends as we gather every Sunday evening for liturgy, friendship and fun throughout the academic year. It’s a great way to end the weekend and start a new week. LITURGY SCHEDULE

Our Sunday liturgies at Magdalen Chapel have returned to the regular schedule of the academic year: 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., and 9:00 p.m.  Daily liturgy is offered at 12:10 p.m. in the Chapel.

 

COFFEE AND CATHOLICISM

October 1 and 29 at 9:00 pm in the Bold Union Room and Wednesday, November 19 @ 9:00pm in Bold Union Room: Want to know more about the Catholic Faith? Come and join us in the Campus Ministry lounge for an informal discussion and Coffeehouse. Your questions will be answered in an atmosphere of friendship, dialogue and with a great deal of fun. JOURNEY

For those thinking about confirmation and those interested in joining the Catholic faith, this is a program designed especially for you.  The RCIA process is a combination of learning, prayer, and dialogue in a comfortable atmosphere in which the participants reflect on their faith journey and discern the steps to deepen their relationship with God in the Catholic faith.  For more information, contact Fr. CHAPEL MINISTRIES

Students, faculty and staff are invited to serve in one of our ministries in Magdalen Chapel. There are opportunities for you to serve as a greeter, lector, Eucharistic minister and as a singer or musician in our music ministry. For more information or to sign up, contact Fr. PRAYERS FOR YOU!

The Sisters of Divine Providence are praying for you!  Don’t forget that if you have a special prayer intention you want them to pray for, drop a note in the basket located at the information desk in the College Center.  The intentions are taken to a chapel at Providence Heights daily by Sr. Rose Michele.  If you are feeling alone, remember, you are not.

 

UNITED NATIONS MILLENNIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS


La Roche College Campus Ministry supports the United Nations Millennium Development Goals and tries to engage in community service and raise awareness of actions related to the goals:

  1. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
  2. Ensure that all boys and girls complete primary school
  3. Promote gender equality and empower women
  4. Reduce by two thirds the mortality rate among children under age five
  5. Reduce by three quarters the ratio of women dying in childbirth
  6. Halt and begin to reverse the spread of HIV/AIDS and incidence of malaria and other major diseases
  7. Ensure environmental sustainability
  8. Develop a global partnership for development
